The Hidden Dangers of Male Masturbation.

The art of self love is a widely accepted part of our modern sex lives. Long gone are the days when the act of masturbation was a taboo subject or a matter of societal shame and it is generally regarded as a healthy outlet.

There have even been studies suggesting that frequent ejaculation can reduce the risk of prostate cancer, claiming that men who ejaculated more than five times a week can be a third less likely to develop the affliction.

However, there are a number of other factors in play that might make us think about re-evaluating our own erotic pleasures.

Regular masturbation for a man can lead to a dependency on the act that will make him less likely to search for a more fulfilling outlet. If the desire for physical attention is being continually dispensed with in this way, there can be seemingly little point in looking for a partner to explore sexually with.

Like many of the desires in our lives, lust is tied to evolutionary mechanisms, in this case to reproduce which via our societal norms leads to love and companionship. Our concern is that masturbation can take away one of our driving impulses to seek a partner, meaning that a cycle of sadness being combated with regular masturbation to provide a spike of pleasure robs us of the very solution to the problem we are hiding from!

Masturbation for a man is often a part of the consumption of pornography. In moderation, this a pleasure that many of us can relate to, but taken to the extreme there can be deep routed effects that are hard to combat. The brain learns to be triggered by visual images rather than sensual touch and the body will associate orgasm with the rapid movements one applies during masturbation. This has lead to complaints from some women that men lose an element of gentle passion as their bodies have begun to develop desires based on pornographic images that are designed to appeal on a very base level.

There is an increasing movement of men across the globe who are turning their backs on masturbation. Many believe that even on a chemical level the act can seem like it is draining them of their true potential with many who cut down on the act claiming to feel more articulate and confident in their day to day lives as well as feeling more inclined to purse erotic encounters.

Those that adhere to this idea will set themselves designated timescales during which they practice abstinence and note any effects on their exterior lives. Reports range from a deeper voice, to being more attractive to women to other people noticing no effect what-so-ever.

As with anything, keeping a healthy balance is important. Medical professionals are remaining skeptical on the links between masturbation and changes in personality and as discussed there are potential health benefits from occasional self love as well as the usual recreational nature of the activity.

If you have any doubts as to your own masturbatory habits, then don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at the London Love School and we’d be happy to talk more.

OCD & Anxiety Inside a Relationship.

Anxiety and OCD are often talked about in the same breath and frequently come hand in hand. Someone suffering from issues with anxiety may well end up developing OCD type behavior as a mechanism with which to cope with this, leading to a spiral of destructive habits that can be harmful not only to them but also to their friends, family and partners.
