Dating Skills

Build the confidence and skills to find the relationship you want

Dating skills and confidence

Dating can be daunting. Whether you are getting back out there after a long relationship, have never really dated before, or simply find the whole process stressful and confusing, you are not alone. Many intelligent, capable people struggle with dating, and it has nothing to do with how attractive or worthy they are.

The good news is that dating skills are exactly that: skills. They can be learned, practised, and improved. With the right guidance, you can become more confident in social situations, more effective at making connections, and more at ease with the whole process of meeting someone new.

I work with men and women who want practical, real-world help with dating. This is not about playing games or following scripts. It is about becoming a more confident, authentic version of yourself.

Common issues I work with

Dating difficulties take many forms. Here are some of the areas where I can help:

  • Online dating profiles — creating a profile that genuinely represents you and attracts the kind of person you are looking for. I help you present yourself authentically and confidently.
  • Dating confidence — overcoming the nerves, self-doubt, and overthinking that can make dating feel like an ordeal rather than an adventure.
  • Conversation skills — learning how to keep a conversation flowing, how to listen well, how to be interesting without trying too hard, and how to move from small talk to real connection.
  • Flirting — understanding the subtle art of showing interest, reading signals, and creating a spark. Many people find flirting mysterious, but it is a learnable skill.
  • Social skills — feeling more comfortable in social settings, whether that is a party, a bar, a work event, or a first date. I help you develop the ease that makes social interactions feel natural.
  • Overcoming shyness — breaking through the barrier of shyness that can prevent you from approaching people, speaking up, or being yourself in social situations.
  • Personal presentation — making a strong first impression through your appearance, body language, and how you carry yourself. Small changes can make a significant difference.
Dating tips and guidance

My approach

My approach to dating skills is practical and action-oriented. I use cognitive behavioural techniques (CBT) to help you identify and challenge the negative beliefs and thinking patterns that are holding you back. At the same time, I give you specific, practical exercises that build your confidence and your skills in real-world situations.

We might work on everything from how you start a conversation to how you handle rejection, from your body language on a date to how you follow up afterwards. I tailor the work to your specific needs. If online dating is your main focus, we concentrate there. If it is face-to-face confidence you need, that is where we put the effort.

This is a collaborative process. I am not here to tell you who to be. I am here to help you become a more confident, socially skilled version of who you already are.

How therapy works

What to expect in sessions

In the first session, I will ask about your dating history, what you find difficult, and what you are hoping to achieve. I will also want to understand your broader social confidence and any patterns that might be getting in the way. This helps me build a plan that is specifically designed for you.

Sessions from there are highly practical. We will work on specific skills, practise techniques, review your experiences between sessions, and set clear goals for the week ahead. You will leave each session with something concrete to work on.

How long does it take?

Dating skills programmes typically run between 6 and 10 sessions, though some people benefit from ongoing support as they put their new skills into practice. I will give you a clear idea of what to expect after our first meeting.

Homework between sessions

Real progress happens in the real world, not in the therapy room. Between sessions, I will ask you to try specific things: starting conversations, attending social events, updating your profile, going on dates. These are always agreed together and pitched at a level that stretches you without overwhelming you.
